Let God be God

I lost a close friend this past week. He was a man of 43years. A minister per excellence. Someone I’ve learnt to trust over many years. And I’ve been thinking, if his death could be such a pain to my heart, then it must be especially devastating to his lovely wife, family & the amazing church he pastors. Hmmm! The comfort of the Spirit is critical in this!

This loss came in the midst of my reflection on the impact of the #ENDSARS protests. I was also thinking about the US election & the earnest prayers of many “saints” that a particular candidate will win. The numerous revelations & prophetic declarations. And then, the huge disappointment. No, not funny. I’ve been there. It is a dark place!

A thinking mind questions

As a person of faith & a preacher of miracles, it is very tempting not to stop & reflect. It is easier to ignore reality than to review questions about faith, prayer & spiritual authority in the light of unpleasant realities. The default position of many is “waka pass”. No one wants to be seen as questioning, irreverent or “faithless”.

But then, if a little reflection can destroy your faith, its either the ‘faith’ was built on a faulty premise or your personal walk with God is unhealthy! Every thinking mind questions. And God is not afraid of our inquiries!

Our limited humanity

One thing that always pops up when I reflect on the seeming disconnect between our faith in a limitless God & our concept of spiritual authority is this word: human!

Being human means….:

  • we are redeemed mortals in a fallen world!
  • our authority isn’t above sovereignty!
  • our motives are not always right!
  • emotions will often cloud our judgment!
  • we often don’t play our part effectively!
  • we may not even understand the problem!
  • we can’t always grasp the big picture!
  • we shouldn’t always have the final word!

It’s not always a bad thing

Our limitations aren’t always bad for us. They’re very good at keeping us humble & hungry for more of God! It also helps us never indulge in self worship, but to keep pointing men to the only one who deserves the worship: our almighty God!

And today, while we wonder & even mourn, we will still worship him! He is God & we are men! We will let God be God!

“The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.“ –   Rev 4:10-11

Hallelujah!

Prayer:

I pray that your heart will ever be right with God! May your glory give him praise continually! Let the overflow of his goodness be seen in your life! You are blessed in Jesus Christ name!

Much Love
